LAS-ELC Helps Women Veterans at Fresno Stand Up Event
Today LAS-ELC traveled to Fresno to provide free legal services to homeless women veterans at the Fresno Women Veterans Stand Up. More than 200 people attended the event at the American Legion Post 500. Representative Jim Costa addressed the crowd and thanked women veterans for their service.
Stand Down events have been held across the country for years to provide food, clothing, services and referrals to veterans in need. But female veterans have unique experiences and needs, and they may not feel comfortable getting help at mostly-male Stand Down events. The programs and services provided at today's Stand Up were tailored to the specific needs of female veterans, and included legal consultations and employment opportunities.
The Stand Down was hosted by the Fresno Veterans' Employment Committee and the Employment Development Department. Legal services were also provided by One Justice and Central California Legal Services.
