Final OFCCP Regulations on Disability Released
Today the Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs – led by LAS-ELC alumna Patricia A. Shiu – issued final regulations interpreting the obligations of federal contractors under Section 503 of the Rehabilitation Act.
Under the new rules, the affirmative action obligations of federal contractors under Section 503 are defined for the first time to include a “utilization goal” of seven percent for persons with disabilities. This means that federal contractors are now required to measure the percentage of persons with disabilities within their workforces, and to take affirmative steps to advance equal employment opportunity for qualified individuals with disabilities when the measured percentage is below seven percent.
